Quaker Steak and Lube

As you walk into Quaker Steak and Lube, you are immediately overwhelmed with the delicious smell of wings. You can even observe many customers licking their fingers and enjoying their meals. Quaker Steak and Lube is a casual chain restaurant located on Colombia Mall Drive in Bloomsburg, just a nine minute drive from the University. Before even entering, you immediately notice the unique design theme of the restaurant. The whole restaurant has an automobile theme, even the outside which features outdoor seating. The first restaurant was built in an abandoned gas station with old cars, so the theme expanded from there. Not only is there a racecar on the outside of the building, there are other vintage cars and trucks on the inside along with motorcycles, and other theme related decorations covering the walls such as pictures of cars. This makes the restaurant different and unique from others especially since it does not even look like a restaurant from the outside. This theme even attracts a certain type of crowd, especially a lot of bikers.

Quaker Steak and Lube also has many special offers which seems to attract customers. For example, they offer bike night Wednesdays for their biker crowds where they grill outside, all you can eat wings on Tuesdays for only $14.99, and a kid’s night on Mondays from 5:00 to 8:00 where kids’ meals are $1.99. The restaurant also has happy hour from Monday through Thursday at 8:00 to 10:00, Friday from 8:00 to 12:00, and Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00. You even have the ability to order food online and pick it up or order from their catering menu for an event.

Wing Sauce Flavors
I came to the restaurant on a Monday night and it was not that crowded. Our waitress greeted us and handed us our menus. The menu was very Americanized. Their foods ranged anywhere from fries, milkshakes, nachos, wings, burgers, sandwiches, salads, ribs and even some desserts like hot fudge brownies and skillet cookies with ice cream. Here is a link to their menu: http://thelube.com/pdf/qsl-menu-jdk1-7-2018.pdf . Quaker Steak and Lube is most popular for their delicious chicken wings. They even offer twenty-five different wing sauces. These sauces vary from extremely spicy named Triple Atomic, to mild named medium to sweet named original barbecue. Since all of the customers seemed to be enjoying them, I took the opportunity to try some myself. I ordered the basket of boneless wings for twelve dollars which comes with twelve wings and I chose the Asian sesame sauce since I do not like spicy foods. They were definitely some of the best wings I have ever had and the table next to me seemed to agree. I also ordered the Arizona ranch chicken dip which came with Pita bread. This was a buffalo chicken dip with ranch, provolone, blue cheese, and celery. This dip had a really good cheesy flavor and a creamy texture and is definitely a customer’s favorite.

Since I actually do know someone who works at this restaurant, I asked him to take the time to speak with me. Evan, one of the cooks, has been working there for a couple of months. He enjoys his job for the most part even when it gets tough. “The hardest part of my job's mostly when the restaurant gets very busy and it’s stressful to try and make all of the food and not keep everyone waiting”. However, the workers still manage get along well since it's a very positive environment. Some of the foods that he cooks the most are of course the wings because of their variety of sauces, their deep fried pickles, their classic cheese steak sandwich, and their half pound steak burgers.

At the end of my meal, I did hear the table next to me complain that their meal was a bit pricey. I did not agree but looking further into this, a lot of yelp reviews acknowledged the pricey menu as well. However, definitely make sure to visit Quaker Steak and Lube and try some of their wings. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the service was great which can always make or break a good restaurant.
